The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently announced the results of the Class 10 examinations on Wednesday, 16th July 2020. This year’s results were different due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The exams were conducted earlier this year, from 15th February to 20th March, but were suspended across the country due to the lockdown measures imposed by the Government of India to contain the virus outbreak.
As a result, the Board decided to adopt the alternative assessment scheme for Class 10. This included assigning grades to the students based on their performance in the internal assessments conducted during the year. The Board also provided measures for students unable to take their examinations due to the pandemic.
This year, a total of 17.2 lakh students from across the country have cleared the CBSE Class 10th Exams. The overall passing percentages were recorded at 91.46%, a significant increase of 9.9% from last year’s figures. This year’s figures also mark the highest passing percentage in the last ten years.
The CBSE also revealed the region-wise performance. The overall pass percentage in Delhi was 96.17%, while in the Tribes and Hill Areas (THA) region, it was 95.59%. The pass percentage in the other regions was recorded at 94.61% in North India, 92.68% in East India, 91.86% in South India, and 91.32% in West India.
These results are undoubtedly commendable, in spite of the difficulties faced by the students due to the pandemic. It speaks for the hard work of the students as well as the dedication of the teachers who ensured that the students not only prepared for the exams but also maintained their mental and emotional wellbeing during this difficult time.
The Board is also creating a library of digital resources which includes resources from its own students as well as from alumni and other external resources. The initiative is being taken to help students with their studies during the lockdown period.
Overall, the Class 10th CBSE results for 2020 have come as a sign of hope and promise at a difficult time. It not only showcases the strength of our students and the education system in India, but also motivates the future batches and reminds us that, with smart work and dedication, one can conquer any challenge.
